Gail Kenny Counselling
If you would like to discover more about yourself, how you function in the world, what’s working in your life and what might need some fine-tuning, I offer respectful, dynamic assistance with understanding how you got to where you are now and how to get more of what you really want. Drawing on a variety of methods and traditions, I am trained to listen deeply, observe closely and feedback what I notice in a non-judgemental way. You and I then work together from this new place of awareness to heal the past and allow your desired changes to materialise.
Some of the issues I specialise in are:
- Body Image/Weight
- Conflict Resolution
- Depression (Mild to Moderate)
- Fears and Phobias
- Grief and Loss
- Isolation and Loneliness
- Performance Enhancement
- Personal Growth and Enrichment
- Physical Problems with an Emotional Cause
- Recovery from Abuse (sexual, physical, emotional, spiritual)
- Religious and Spiritual Issues
- Self Esteem
- Trauma (including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)
What to expect?
Expect to be welcomed into a safe environment where you can reflect on your life in the presence of someone who is interested in you and your life’s concerns, trained to support your forward movement and skilled in a variety of therapeutic arts.
How long will it take?
Sessions are usually for one hour but can be for up to 90 minutes. Some people prefer a longer session time and this can be easily arranged either at the time of booking or during the session. The length, frequency and duration of sessions depends largely on the work at hand and as such is something that needs to be regularly reviewed and mutually negotiated. Factors that influence the number of sessions required include your personal history, your presenting issues, available supports outside of your sessions, the degree of change desired and possible at this time.
How much does it cost?
$130 plus GST for a one-hour session
$160 plus GST for 90 minutes
$210 plus GST for a two-hour session
$15 plus GST extra for home visits within an 8 km radius of the CBD
Some clients may be able to claim a rebate from Medibank Private or BUPA. Please check with your fund before your first appointment.
A bit about me:
My first career was in Early Childhood Education. I then trained with Lifeline and became a Telephone Counsellor. After living in Papua New Guinea (6 years) and Malaysia (4 years), I returned to Brisbane and completed five years (part-time) training in Gestalt Psychotherapy.
Recently, I have also completed over 300 hours of additional training with Pat Ogden's Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute. Other healing arts I have studied include Family Constellation Work, Hakomi, Yoga, Meditation, Emotional Freedom Technique, Havening, Brainspotting, Australian Bush Flower Essences, Breathwork, Trauma Release Therapy and Hypnotherapy.
I blend various aspects of the above modalities to help you achieve rapid, lasting results. My guiding belief is that we all have within us a drive towards wholeness and it is my job to help clients access and harness this drive. I am married with two grown children.

What others say:
"I greatly appreciate Gail’s warmth, insights, non-judgemental nature and therapeutic skills and have no hesitation in recommending her to anyone seeking counselling."
(35-year-old male Engineer)
"Thank you for accompanying me on a journey that has taken me to hitherto unknown inner landscapes, opened up doors leading to places of colourful wonders and crying sadness, and let me have glimpses full of promises of more of what is me."
(35-year-old female Public Servant)
"I found Gail to be a very encouraging, supportive and knowledgeable counsellor. She allowed me to explore any issue I needed to in order to feel whole again. She enabled me to enter into my fear and pain in a safe way, through her gentle approach, her warm guidance, and insightful nature. I have no hesitation in recommending her counselling service to anyone. "
(30-year-old female Social Worker)
"It’s easy to be a little apprehensive when making an appointment to see a psychotherapist for the first time. The knowledge that you are about to spill everything about yourself into a 90-minute session can be quite daunting. If Gail hadn’t been so welcoming and genuinely interested I probably wouldn’t have hugged her for so long at the end of our first session. Thank you Gail."
(34-year-old mother of two)
